Sabrina Carpenter surprised audiences with a special cameo during Quinta Brunson‘s monologue on Saturday Night Live (SNL), where the duo performed a light-hearted song celebrating short individuals. This unexpected collaboration highlighted Brunson’s experiences as a host, marking her second time leading the beloved late-night show.
Brunson kicked off her SNL monologue by humorously acknowledging her return, quipping, “I’m proof you can do anything you put your mind to even if people look down on you.” She playfully mentioned her height, stating, “Whether it’s because of where you come from or literally because you’re only 4’11.” With a smile, she embraced her stature, saying, “Yeah, that’s right. I’m short… But I love being short, and I want other short people to know the sky’s the limit. So shorties, tonight, this one’s for us!”
Following her heartfelt introduction, Brunson launched into a catchy song dedicated to those who share her height. The lyrics celebrated the perks of being short: “Being short is amazing, being short is just fine. I’m a cheap date cause I get wasted off of one glass of wine.” Throughout the performance, Brunson paid tribute to notable figures who are also on the shorter side, including Simone Biles, Kendrick Lamar, and Tom Holland.
Just as the fun song reached its peak, the camera panned to reveal Sabrina Carpenter, who added an element of surprise to the performance. Brunson was taken aback, exclaiming, “Sabrina, what are you doing here?” Carpenter responded with a laugh, “I mean, you were talking about being short, so I thought I’d stop by.” Their playful banter continued as Brunson asked Carpenter, “When you eat short rib does it taste just like rib?” to which Carpenter humorously agreed, followed by her own question about short stories.
As the segment progressed, SNL cast member Marcello Hernandez joined the pair on stage, poking fun at their height by stating, “I just thought I would come stand next to you because it makes me look super tall.” Carpenter encouraged Hernandez to embrace his stature, saying, “Come on, Marcello, you should be proud of being short.”
The comedic atmosphere escalated with the arrival of former NBA champion Dwyane Wade. Brunson, surprised by his presence, asked, “Dwyane, sorry, what are you doing here?” Wade explained that he was simply in the audience when he felt represented by their song about being short, humorously adding, “Yeah, but I’m 6’4″, and in basketball world, it’s like 4’10″.” The segment concluded with Brunson allowing Wade to join the “shorties,” celebrating their camaraderie.
Earlier in the night, SNL’s cold open took a comedic jab at Donald Trump’s first 100 days in office. Actor James Austin Johnson, portraying Trump, joked about his executive orders, saying, “Well, it’s been 100 years since I became president. Excuse me, days, wow, feels longer.” The skit featured playful commentary on various topics, including a humorous reference to Bill Belichick’s controversial interview appearance.
Quinta Brunson, the star and creator of the hit series Abbott Elementary, made her return to host SNL for the second time, alongside musical guest Benson Boone. This episode marked a significant moment for both artists, with Brunson celebrating her first hosting gig since April 2023 and Carpenter making her debut performance on the iconic show.
