The son of The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus and former Victoria’s Secret model Helena Christensen, Mingus Lucien Reedus, has been arrested in New York City over the weekend. The arrest came after he allegedly assaulted a woman, as confirmed by police reports. Mingus, aged 25, pleaded not guilty in Manhattan Criminal Court on Saturday, facing multiple charges stemming from the incident.
Mingus Reedus is facing serious legal repercussions, including charges of third-degree assault, assault recklessly causing injury, criminal obstruction of breathing, second-degree harassment, and aggravated harassment. According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), officers responded to a call at an apartment on West 16th Street in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood around 8:40 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered a 33-year-old woman with “minor injuries” to her neck and leg.
The woman was promptly transported to Bellevue Hospital for treatment, while Mingus Reedus was taken into custody. Reports indicate that Reedus, who is listed as a resident of the upscale Chelsea apartment, allegedly punched the woman to wake her before choking her and slamming her to the ground. Following the alleged assault, he reportedly called 911, claiming that a woman at the residence was taking pills and threatening suicide.
As Reedus was escorted out of the courthouse in handcuffs, he was met with questions from reporters about the incident. When asked, “Why did you call the police?” he denied having done so. “I didn’t,” Reedus replied. When pressed further for details, he chuckled and simply said, “no.” In a statement to The New York Post, he described the incident as “a misunderstanding.”
A woman who identified herself as Reedus' girlfriend also claimed that the arrest was based on a significant “misunderstanding.” However, it remains unclear if she was the same woman who accused him of assault. This ambiguity adds another layer of complexity to the case.
Mingus Reedus’ attorney, Priya Chaudhry, shared her thoughts with NBC News regarding the charges. She stated, “Despite what the prosecutor said in court — which is not evidence — they chose to charge Mingus with misdemeanors or less.” Chaudhry emphasized that this decision speaks volumes, asserting that it carries more weight than the prosecutor’s unsupported comments during the hearing.
This incident is not the first time Reedus has faced allegations of violence. In 2022, he accepted a plea deal after being accused of punching a woman during the San Gennaro Festival in Little Italy the previous September. He ultimately pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, receiving a conditional discharge that mandated counseling sessions and a year without further trouble.
The arrest of Mingus Lucien Reedus raises significant questions about the ongoing allegations of violence surrounding him. As the case progresses, further details may emerge that could shed light on this troubling situation, keeping both fans and the media closely following developments.
