Nintendo has officially announced its upcoming wave of Amiibo toys, marking a significant milestone as the largest and most expensive figures in the company’s history. This new collection will feature unique releases for popular titles such as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby Air Riders, and Super Mario Galaxy. The announcement was made on Friday, generating excitement among collectors and gamers alike.
Among the most noteworthy additions are the Kirby Amiibo figures, which will retail for an unprecedented $50, making them the most expensive Amiibo ever released. Historically, Amiibo figures have typically ranged from $20 to $30 in the US market, and when they first launched a decade ago, prices hovered around $15. The price jump for the Kirby figures can be attributed to their innovative design, which includes both a ‘rider’ figure and a machine for attachment, allowing for interchangeable drivers.
This unique functionality doesn’t end with the physical toys; it extends into the gaming experience. Players can scan their Kirby Amiibo to create an in-game Rider & Air Ride Machine combo. This combo can be trained as a Figure Player (FP), which will progressively gain FP levels through gameplay. This added layer of interaction is expected to enhance the gaming experience significantly.
In addition to the Kirby figures, Nintendo will also release two Amiibo figures for Super Mario Galaxy, each priced at $40. Nintendo justifies this premium price by noting that these figures are “larger than the standard size.” Early indications suggest that the Galaxy Amiibo will measure at least 13.6cm tall, comparable to the previously released Detective Pikachu Amiibo, which was also classified as an XL-sized figure.
In a departure from traditional Amiibo figures, Nintendo has also introduced a 28cm Yarn Yoshi plush with Amiibo functionality. Players will be able to interact with the Mario & Luma Amiibo in both Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2, unlocking special items such as a Life Mushroom. Similarly, the Rosalina and Lumas Amiibo will grant players a 1-Up Mushroom, adding further value to these collectibles.
The newly announced Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Amiibo figures will be priced between $30 and $40, with the Samus & Vi-O-La figure sitting at the higher end of that range. As of now, Nintendo has not disclosed the specific in-game unlocks that these Metroid Amiibo figures will provide, leaving fans eager for more information.
