Nintendo of America has taken a delightful trip down memory lane by not only uploading its classic 1991 SNES TV advert but also recreating it entirely for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, set to launch in 2025. This nostalgic revival features the original leading man, Paul Rudd, who first graced our screens to promote iconic games such as F-Zero, Pilotwings, Sim City, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
More than three decades after his initial appearance, the charming and seemingly ageless actor Paul Rudd is back, reprising his role in the commercial with his signature beaded necklace. Nintendo has teased fans with the phrase, “Step back into 1991 and watch the official Super Nintendo Entertainment System launch commercial featuring Paul Rudd.” The nostalgia is palpable as the video blurb adds, “Three decades later, we’re back together again.”
Over the recent bank holiday, Nintendo also provided crucial information regarding how US tariffs will affect the launch of the Switch 2. The company confirmed that price increases for various console accessories are expected due to changes in market conditions. For instance, a new set of Joy-Con 2 controllers will now retail for $95, marking a $5 increase.
Additionally, the Switch 2 Pro controller and the Switch 2 camera have also seen a price hike of $5, now costing $85 and $55 respectively. However, it’s worth noting that the base price of the $450 Switch 2, including its $500 bundle featuring Mario Kart World, will remain unchanged for the time being.
The anticipation for the Nintendo Switch 2 continues to build as fans reminisce about the golden age of gaming represented by the SNES. With Paul Rudd back on board, the launch promises not only to evoke nostalgia but also to introduce a new generation of gamers to the incredible world of Nintendo. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the exciting launch in 2025.
