English singer-songwriter Morrissey has made the difficult decision to cancel his upcoming concerts this weekend due to a “credible threat” against his life. The announcement was shared on his official Instagram account, which stated, “In recent days, there has been a credible threat on Morrissey’s life. Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of both the artist and audience, tonight’s engagement at Foxwoods has been canceled. We appreciate your understanding.”
In a similar vein, the official Instagram account for Boston’s MGM Music Hall, where Morrissey was scheduled to perform tomorrow, released a statement echoing these concerns. They noted, “In recent days, there has been a credible threat on Morrissey’s life. Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of both the artist and band, tomorrow’s engagement at the MGM Music Hall at Fenway has been canceled.”
The former member of the iconic band The Smiths is currently on his Nude Tour and had recently performed at New York’s Radio City Music Hall without any reported incidents. However, this cancellation follows the arrest of 26-year-old Noah Castellano from Ottawa, who was charged with making threats to cause death or bodily harm towards Morrissey. Castellano allegedly made these threats on the social media platform Blue Sky.
On September 4, Castellano, using an account named “guy who gets shot in the head one hundred thousand times a day,” posted a disturbing message stating that he would attend Morrissey's concert at TD Place in Ottawa on September 12, 2025, with the intent to harm the artist. Despite this alarming threat, Morrissey went ahead with his performance at the CityFolk festival in Ottawa shortly after the threats were made.
Following his arrest, Castellano posted a $5,000 bail and is currently mandated to reside at his father's home in the Washington, D.C. area. When approached by the Ottawa Citizen for comments regarding the charges, Castellano stated, “I’m not interested.”
As of now, it remains unclear whether Morrissey has received additional threats, or if the decision to cancel the performances was solely a precautionary measure prompted by the recent social media posts. The MGM Music Hall has assured ticket holders that “all tickets will be refunded at the point of purchase.”
The safety of performers and their audiences is paramount, and Morrissey’s decision to cancel his concerts underscores the seriousness of the threats he has faced. Fans and followers are encouraged to stay updated through official channels as more information becomes available regarding the situation and future performances.
