The highly anticipated Hollywood Arts spinoff of the beloved Nickelodeon series Victorious is on the rise, with Daniella Monet reprising her role as Trina Vega. This multi-camera sitcom, which was developed at Nickelodeon, is set to make its debut on a new streaming platform—Netflix. Having been placed on a fast track for production in early 2025, Netflix has officially ordered 26 episodes of Hollywood Arts, slated for a global premiere in 2026. Following its release on Netflix, the show will also be available on Nickelodeon and Paramount+, likely on the same day.
The deal to move Hollywood Arts to Netflix is believed to be a recent development, following the completion of the Skydance-Paramount merger in August. This merger led to significant changes in executive leadership, including the departure of longtime Nickelodeon chief Brian Robbins. Notably, Dan Schneider, the creator of Victorious, who left Nickelodeon in 2018, is not involved in this new project.
Hollywood Arts comes from the talented writers and showrunners Jake Farrow and Samantha Martin. Farrow has a rich history with Nickelodeon, having worked on both Victorious and its spinoff, Sam & Cat. He is also known for voicing Robbie’s puppet, Rex Powers. Martin has contributed to popular shows like Henry Danger and The Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder.
As of February, casting for Hollywood Arts was already in motion, with Nickelodeon assembling a talented cast before the series transitioned to Netflix. In addition to Daniella Monet, who also serves as an executive producer, the cast includes Alyssa Miles, Emmy Liu-Wang, Peyton Jackson, Erika Swayze, and Martin Kamm. Notably, Yvette Nicole Brown, known for her role in Community, is set to guest star. However, it remains uncertain if other original cast members, particularly Victoria Justice and Ariana Grande, will make appearances in the new series.
The premise of Hollywood Arts revolves around Trina Vega, who returns to her former high school as an unqualified substitute teacher. She finds herself both clashing with and unexpectedly inspiring a new generation of ambitious students at Hollywood’s elite performing arts school. The first table read for the show took place on October 14, and production is currently underway in Vancouver, Canada.
Netflix's decision to license Hollywood Arts aligns with its strategy to bolster its offerings in the teen sitcom genre, especially as it previously carried Seasons 1-3 of Victorious, which has garnered over 45 million views on the platform since the start of 2024. Despite challenges in launching successful original teen sitcoms, Netflix has found some success with shows like Alexa & Katie, while other projects faced quick cancellations.
The partnership between Netflix and Nickelodeon has evolved over the past decade, leading to a variety of collaborations, including original films and TV series based on Nickelodeon intellectual property.
