During the Halo World Championships, Microsoft officially confirmed the long-rumored remake of the original Halo title, now named Halo: Campaign Evolved. This groundbreaking announcement marks the first time a Halo game will be available on the PlayStation 5 and any other PlayStation platform, expanding the iconic franchise's reach beyond its traditional Xbox roots.
In a significant shift for the franchise, Microsoft and Halo Studios announced that all future Halo games will be released on both PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as on PC. This decision signals a new era for Halo, aimed at welcoming a broader audience into its vibrant gaming community.
Following the announcement of Halo: Campaign Evolved, Halo Studios community director Brian Jarrard took to the stage at the Halo World Championships, donning a PlayStation T-shirt. He expressed enthusiasm about the franchise's multi-platform future, stating, “It's a huge deal. It's a long time coming. We're just super excited to be able to welcome even more players now into the franchise we love, to fall in love with Halo the same way we all did 24 years ago.”
Jarrard emphasized the excitement within the Halo community to welcome new players, stating, “It’s just going to mean more Halo for everyone. It’s really a new era.” The launch of Halo: Campaign Evolved in 2026 will kick off this new chapter for the franchise.
This announcement aligns with recent comments from Xbox president Sarah Bond, who noted that the idea of exclusive games is becoming outdated for many gamers. Over the past two years, the number of Xbox titles making their way to PlayStation has significantly increased, including other major franchises like Gears of War.
There have even been instances this year where Xbox games have dominated the best-selling titles on PlayStation's US sales charts, showcasing a notable shift in gaming dynamics.
While Microsoft did not unveil the anticipated live-service Halo game during the Halo World Championships, the company has previously indicated that multiple new Halo games are currently in development. As the 25th anniversary of the franchise approaches next year, anticipation builds for the launch of Halo: Campaign Evolved on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC in 2026, promising to bring a fresh experience to both new and veteran players alike.
