In today’s highly anticipated Nintendo Direct, a brand new trailer was unveiled for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, showcasing thrilling new content that fans have eagerly awaited. Among the highlights, the trailer revealed the three Mega Evolutions for the original Kalos First Partner Pokémon, igniting excitement within the Pokémon community. Additionally, a new downloadable content pack (DLC) titled ‘Mega Dimension’ has been announced, featuring two exciting new Mega Evolutions for Raichu: Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y!
The trailer for Pokémon Legends: Z-A introduces players to a dynamic battle sequence featuring Mega Evolutions of beloved Pokémon. Notably, Chesnaught, Delphox, and Greninja are seen engaging in an epic clash against a formidable Mega Absol! Each Mega Evolution brings unique characteristics that enhance gameplay, making these characters even more compelling.
One of the standout reveals is Mega Greninja, which has been confirmed as a Water and Dark type. In an eye-catching scene, Greninja is depicted hanging upside down from a rotating star, reminiscent of a helicopter. Given Greninja's status as a fan favorite, this Mega Evolution is sure to resonate well with players, adding to its already established popularity.
Next up is Mega Delphox, characterized as a Fire and Psychic type. This version of Delphox leans into its mystical aesthetic, elegantly hovering on a flaming broomstick. The design choices emphasize the witch-like qualities of this Pokémon, making it an intriguing addition to the roster of Mega Evolutions.
Lastly, we have Mega Chesnaught, which is categorized as a Grass and Fighting type. This evolution features a stunning cape and staff, although these elements were not included in the official render. Mega Chesnaught’s new design promises to enhance its role in battles, providing players with additional strategies and options.
The announcement of the new Mega Dimension DLC brings even more excitement to Pokémon Legends: Z-A. This expansion will center around Hoopa, alongside the new Mega Evolutions for Raichu. In this content, Raichu will receive not one, but two new Mega Evolutions: Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y. This theme of X and Y shaped Mega Evolutions is a delightful twist that fans will appreciate.
Hoopa plays a crucial role in the storyline of Mega Dimension, utilizing its unique ability to warp space through the rings adorning its horns and body. The Mega Dimension DLC will be compatible with both the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, ensuring that players across platforms can enjoy the new content. Once purchased, it can be accessed regardless of whether you own Pokémon Legends: Z-A or Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
Pre-orders for Mega Dimension are currently available, with the additional story content scheduled to launch shortly after the DLC goes on sale on October 16, 2025. Notably, both new Raichu evolutions bear a resemblance to Gorochu, the rumored original scrapped evolution for Raichu, which was said to possess fangs and horns.
Mega Raichu X is a pure Electric type, featuring two tails, significantly larger ears, and chunkier hands, enhancing its overall design. On the other hand, Mega Raichu Y also remains a pure Electric type, but with distinct new features, including ears/wings/horns sprouting from the top of its head, adding a unique flair to its appearance.
With the reveal of these exciting new Mega Evolutions, we now have a total of nine Mega Evolutions disclosed ahead of the release of Pokémon Legends: Z-A. While many fans anticipated the original Kalos First Partner Pokémon to receive Mega Evolutions, the introduction of two Mega Evolutions for Raichu comes as a delightful surprise. Interestingly, Mega Raichu was not included in the previously ‘leaked’ list of new Megas, marking a refreshing change of pace for the franchise.
