MARINETTE (WLUK) – Chelsea O’Donnell, the daughter of renowned comedian Rosie O’Donnell, has faced significant legal challenges recently, as she was terminated from a drug treatment court program, according to court records. At 28 years old, O’Donnell was convicted of drug possession and obstruction in Marinette County, which has raised concerns about her future and the impact of addiction on her life.
In March, following her conviction, Chelsea O’Donnell was placed on probation and admitted into a drug treatment court program. This program was designed to provide support and rehabilitation for individuals battling addiction. Along with probation, she was given a one-year prison sentence, which was stayed. This meant that while she was not immediately sent to prison, she could face incarceration if she committed further violations.
Court records indicate that O’Donnell faced a series of violations during her probation period. These violations resulted in various consequences, including community service, an order to write a letter of apology, and an essay as part of her rehabilitation process. Ultimately, the state took measures to terminate her involvement in the drug court program, leading to a court order last week that indicated a ‘change in status’ to “Revoked - Sentenced to Prison (State Probation).”
As of Wednesday, however, records from the Department of Corrections (DOC) do not show Chelsea O’Donnell as being in custody. Instead, her status is classified as “active community supervision,” and she is listed with a Marinette address. FOX 11 has reached out to the Department of Corrections for clarification regarding her current status and any potential next steps.
The legal proceedings involving her daughter prompted Rosie O’Donnell to take to Instagram to express her feelings. She posted about Chelsea, stating, “My child Chelsea Belle - before addiction took over her life - I loved her then, I love her now as she faces a scary future - prayers welcomed - addictionawareness love family.” This heartfelt message highlights the emotional toll of addiction on families.
In a statement to People Magazine, Rosie O’Donnell shared her compassion for those battling addiction. She reflected on Chelsea’s early life, noting, “Chelsea was born into addiction and it has been a painful journey for her and her four young children.” Rosie emphasized the importance of love and support during these challenging times, calling for prayers as Chelsea navigates her struggles with addiction.
As the situation unfolds, the impact of addiction on families remains a critical issue, with public figures like Rosie O’Donnell advocating for awareness and compassion for those affected.
