A woman named Morgan Geyser, who gained notoriety for her involvement in the shocking Slender Man stabbing case over a decade ago, has recently left a group home in Madison, Wisconsin. This dramatic turn of events unfolded after Geyser reportedly cut off her monitoring bracelet, prompting local authorities to initiate a search for her. As of now, Geyser, who is 23 years old, was last seen in a residential neighborhood on the west side of Madison around 8 p.m. on Saturday, accompanied by an adult acquaintance.
The Slender Man stabbing incident, which took place in May 2014, deeply shocked the nation. At that time, both Geyser and her friend Anissa Weier were just 12 years old. The two girls lured their classmate, Peyton Leutner, into a park in Waukesha, Wisconsin, where they proceeded to stab her 19 times. Their motive was to impress Slender Man, a fictional character that had become a modern-day boogeyman on the internet. Miraculously, Leutner survived the attack, managing to crawl out of the woods to safety, where she was eventually discovered by a passing bicyclist.
Leutner had previously shared with ABC that she spent considerable time with Geyser and Weier. During this time, Geyser frequently spoke about Slender Man, a character that terrified Leutner. The ill-fated night of the stabbing coincided with Leutner’s birthday, as she had gone to Geyser’s home for a slumber party.
After the incident, Geyser was charged with attempted first-degree murder. In a plea deal, she accepted the charge and was placed in a mental institution instead of facing jail time. During her sentencing in 2018, Geyser expressed her remorse, stating, “I never meant this to happen. I hope that she is doing well.” She had spent nearly seven years at the Winnebago Mental Health Institute before a judge ordered her release in January.
Following her release, Geyser's attorney, Tony Cotton, issued a statement urging her to turn herself in. He emphasized the hard work that went into securing her freedom and expressed concern over her current path. It remains unclear how Geyser managed to leave the group home or if anyone assisted her in this escape.
Weier, who was also involved in the stabbing, pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree homicide due to mental illness. She received a 25-year commitment to a mental hospital but was released in 2021 under the condition that she live with her father and wear a GPS monitor, highlighting the ongoing complexities surrounding both cases.
As the situation unfolds, local authorities and the community remain alert, hoping for Geyser's safe return as they navigate the repercussions of one of the most bizarre crimes in recent memory.
