Late Saturday evening, Rudy Giuliani was involved in a serious car accident while being driven in a rented Ford Bronco by his spokesperson, Ted Goodman. The collision occurred when their vehicle was struck from behind by a Honda HR-V, driven by a 19-year-old woman, as reported by the New Hampshire State Police.
According to the police statement, the crash resulted in both vehicles crashing into the highway median, leaving them “heavily damaged.” Fortunately, both Goodman and the young woman suffered only “non-life-threatening injuries” and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. The state police have launched an investigation into the incident, but as of now, no charges have been filed.
The 81-year-old Giuliani was taken to a nearby trauma center where he is being treated for a fractured thoracic vertebra, along with multiple lacerations and contusions. He also sustained injuries to his left arm and lower leg. Michael Ragusa, Giuliani’s head of security, shared an update on social media, stating that Giuliani “sustained injuries but is in good spirits and recovering tremendously.” Ragusa emphasized that “this was not a targeted attack.”
Prior to the accident, Giuliani had been flagged down by a woman who was a victim of a domestic violence incident. He had contacted the police to assist her, according to Ragusa. After police arrived on the scene, Giuliani continued on his way, and shortly thereafter, his vehicle was struck. Ragusa confirmed that the crash was “entirely unrelated” to the domestic violence incident.
State police noted that troopers were already investigating a domestic violence report on the southbound lanes of Interstate 93 shortly before 10 p.m. when they witnessed the crash occurring on the northbound lanes. Emergency responders quickly crossed over to provide assistance to those involved in the accident.
New Hampshire State Police have not commented on whether Giuliani reported the domestic violence incident to them. Attempts to reach Goodman for comments were unsuccessful, and Giuliani’s team has not provided further details regarding the crash. In a heartfelt message on social media platform X, Andrew Giuliani, Rudy's son, expressed gratitude for the support, stating, “Thank you to all the people that have reached out since learning the news about my Father. Your prayers mean the world.”
This accident follows a tumultuous period for Giuliani, who is known for his leadership in New York City after the September 11 attacks in 2001, earning him the title of “America’s Mayor.” Giuliani later served as President Donald Trump’s personal attorney and was a vocal supporter of Trump’s allegations regarding fraud in the 2020 election, which was ultimately won by Democrat Joe Biden. Despite numerous lawsuits and recounts, no significant wrongdoing or errors were found in the election results.
