However, he cautioned that imposing additional sanctions could halt dialogue. “The minute you levy additional sanctions, strong additional sanctions, the talking stops,” he remarked during an interview on ABC News.
Rubio acknowledged that while progress has been made in identifying possible areas of agreement, significant disagreements remain, indicating that a peace agreement is still not imminent. “We’re not at the precipice of a peace agreement, but I do think progress was made towards one,” he stated.
