Meta Introduces Live Photos Support on WhatsApp

Today, Meta officially confirmed a feature that many WhatsApp users have been eagerly anticipating: the app now supports Live Photos. This exciting update enhances the way users capture and share moments, making conversations richer and more engaging. Here’s a closer look at how this feature works and what else is new in the latest WhatsApp update.

Live Photos Support Rolling Out

In a recent Newsroom post, Meta detailed several features that have been integrated into WhatsApp over the past few months. Among these, the compatibility with Live Photos on iOS and Motion Photos on Android stands out. When users send or receive a Live Photo, it animates for a brief moment, just like how it appears in the iOS photo album. These images come with a Live Photo indicator located in the top-left corner, and tapping on them allows the recipient to hear the audio recorded at the time of capture.

Feature Roundup from Meta

In addition to the introduction of Live Photos, Meta highlighted several other exciting features in their announcement:

Live and Motion Photos: Users can now share Live Photos on iOS and Motion Photos on Android, adding sound and motion to captured moments, allowing for richer sharing experiences. New Chat Themes with Meta AI: Earlier this year, Meta introduced chat themes for customization. Now, users can harness the power of Meta AI to create their own unique chat themes, although this feature may not be accessible to all users. New Sticker Packs: WhatsApp has rolled out new sticker packs, including the Fearless Bird and Vacation packs, which feature adorable characters that help express feelings without the need for words. Easier Group Search: With creative group chat names, it can be tough to remember them all. Now, users can simply search for a contact in their Chats tab to find related groups. Document Scanning on Android: Android users can now scan, crop, and send documents directly through WhatsApp, a feature that was previously exclusive to iPhone users. New Video Call Backgrounds with Meta AI: Users can create unique backgrounds for their video calls using Meta AI, allowing them to customize their surroundings or choose something entirely new.

Current Status of Live Photos Feature

Although Meta has confirmed the rollout of Live Photos support, it appears that this feature is still in the process of being made available to all users. Some iOS users have reported being able to receive Live Photos but are unable to send them. This indicates that the rollout may not yet be complete for everyone.

With these new features, WhatsApp is enhancing user experience by making communication more dynamic and personalized. Users can look forward to sharing richer moments through Live Photos, engaging more creatively with chat themes, and enjoying the convenience of updated functionalities.
