The recent decision by the new owners of VPN provider VPNSecure to cancel lifetime subscriptions has sparked significant outrage among its customer base. Upon acquiring the company, the new owners claimed they were unaware of the existing lifetime subscriptions, leading to a series of complaints from users who found their accounts deactivated.
In March 2023, numerous complaints began surfacing online regarding the termination of lifetime subscriptions to VPNSecure. The first public acknowledgment of the issue came on April 28, when affected customers received an email stating: “To continue providing a secure and high-quality experience for all users, Lifetime Deal accounts have now been deactivated as of April 28th, 2025.” The communication from “The VPN Secure Team” revealed that accounts previously identified as dormant, specifically those unused for over six months, were deactivated.
According to the email, VPNSecure was acquired in 2023, along with its technology, domain, and customer database. However, the new ownership claimed they did not inherit any liabilities from the previous management, which included these lifetime subscriptions sold through platforms like StackSocial.
In a follow-up email, users learned that the acquisition by InfiniteQuant Ltd was strictly an asset deal. A representative from VPNSecure stated on Trustpilot that the current owners did not gain access to the customer database until months after the acquisition. They emphasized that their acquisition only included the technology and brand, while leaving behind all prior contracts and obligations.
The email further explained that the previous owners failed to disclose the sale of thousands of lifetime subscriptions, which led to unexpected challenges for the new management. Despite the difficulties, the new owners chose to continue operations rather than shut down the service entirely, stating, “We never will sell lifetime subscriptions.”
As a remedy for the affected users, VPNSecure is providing discounted subscription options: $1.87 for a month (originally $9.95), $19 for a year (originally $79.92), or $55 for three years (originally $107.64). Users have until May 31 to take advantage of these offers. However, many customers have expressed dissatisfaction with the abrupt cancellation of their lifetime subscriptions.
Since the initial announcement, VPNSecure has faced a wave of negative reviews on platforms like Trustpilot, with users expressing their frustration over the lack of communication and clarity. A recent review highlighted the disappointment felt when a customer discovered their service had been canceled without prior notice. Many users have criticized the company for not notifying them before deactivating their accounts, calling for more transparent and empathetic communication.
On Reddit, customers have voiced their disbelief regarding the new owners' claims of ignorance about the lifetime subscriptions. Despite their assertion that they conducted thorough due diligence before the acquisition, users argue that a simple online search would have revealed the existence of these offers.
The ownership structure of VPNSecure has also raised questions. The company currently lists its owner as InfiniteQuant Ltd based in the Bahamas, while its terms of service reference HOLDXB Trading FZCO in Dubai. Historical data indicates a prior association with an Australian firm, complicating the narrative surrounding ownership and accountability.
The situation with VPNSecure serves as a cautionary tale about the reliability of lifetime subscriptions. Although marketed as long-term deals, they often come with hidden risks. As seen with VPNSecure, new ownership can invalidate such promises, leaving users without the services they expected. Furthermore, significant changes in ownership may lead to abrupt alterations or cancellations of services that were once guaranteed.
Future customers considering lifetime subscriptions should be aware of these potential pitfalls and remain vigilant in researching the companies behind these offers. Clear communication from service providers is essential to maintain trust and customer satisfaction.
