Don't miss out on essential Windows 10 security updates! Find out how to register for the ESU program and solve registration issues quickly.

Support for Windows 10 22H2 Officially Ends

Support for Windows 10 22H2 officially concluded earlier this week on October 14th. As a result, users of this version of Windows will no longer receive standard updates and patches. However, on the following day, October 15th, the registration for Extended Security Updates (ESU) was activated. This program provides critical security patches for those who have registered, extending support for Windows 10 by an additional year.

Challenges with ESU Registration

Despite the activation of the ESU registration, many users have reported that the registration window is not appearing on their PCs. This issue affects even those computers that are unable to upgrade to Windows 11 and depend on these extended updates. Our tests revealed that the notice was absent on our test computer as well. Fortunately, there is a solution available to help users enroll in the ESU program.

How to Register for Windows 10 ESU

In a previous article, we provided an in-depth guide on how to register for the Windows 10 ESU program. To summarize, the process is relatively straightforward. First, ensure you are logged into your Windows 10 PC using a Microsoft account, have administrative rights, and have installed the latest system updates. Once these conditions are met, the ESU registration should appear under the Windows Update settings.

What to Do If the ESU Registration Does Not Appear

If the registration option is still not visible, you can force the login link through the Windows Command Prompt. Follow these steps:

Type cmd in the Windows search bar.Right-click on the Command Prompt and select “Run as administrator.”In the Command Prompt, enter the following command: sc.exe config DiagTrack start=auto, then press Enter.Next, type sc.exe start DiagTrack and press Enter again. Then, input this command: reg.exe add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Policies\Microsoft\FeatureManagement\Overrides /v 4011992206 /t REG_DWORD /d 2 /f.Restart your PC to apply these changes. After rebooting, open the Command Prompt once more and enter: cmd /c ClipESUConsumer.exe -evaluateEligibility.Restart your PC again.

Finally, navigate to Windows Update. If your PC is fully updated and you have administrative rights, the ESU program should now be available for registration. This method proved effective on our Windows 10 PC.

Contact Microsoft Support for Further Assistance

If you continue to experience difficulties with the ESU registration process, we recommend reaching out to Microsoft Support for assistance. They can provide additional guidance and troubleshoot any lingering issues you may encounter.
