Sigma has announced the launch of a groundbreaking camera that introduces a new concept to the photography world: the Sigma BF. This L-Mount camera features a 24MP full-frame sensor, 230GB of internal memory, and a minimalist design. Emulating a modern-day camera obscura, it allows for single-finger operation. Priced at $1,999, it will be available in April.
In an era where smartphones increasingly dominate photography, Sigma CEO Kazuto Yamaki introduces a dedicated camera designed for everyday life. Yamaki addresses the issue that modern digital cameras are often incompatible with day-to-day use. The Sigma BF aims to be a small, simple, and highly usable camera, perfect for everyday photography, catering to creative minds.
The Sigma BF is crafted from a single aluminum ingot, taking over seven hours to produce, ensuring a superb feel and exceptional durability. The design is screw-free, with only a strap hole on the left, a USB-C port on the right, and a tripod mount and battery compartment on the bottom. Compact in size, the camera measures just 120.1 x 7.8 x 36.8 mm and weighs only 388g.
Notably, the camera lacks a memory card slot due to its substantial 230GB of internal storage. The user interface is streamlined with one dial and three buttons, allowing for control using haptic technology for a precise feel. The operational and live view system is simplified, offering an information-free live view screen for distraction-free shooting.
The Sigma BF introduces JPEG color modes, including a Rich mode with cyan-focused, saturated colors for visual impact, and a Calm mode with muted colors, ideal for portraits and elegant, relaxed looks.
Alongside the Sigma BF, Sigma has unveiled two exciting lenses: the 300-600mm f/4 DG OS and the Sigma 16-300mm f/3.5-6.7 DC OS Contemporary.
The 300-600mm f/4 lens promises the optical performance of a 600mm prime lens, weighing 3,985g and offering 5.5 stops of optical stabilization at 600mm. It features drop-in filters and is available in both L-Mount and E-Mount for $5,999, shipping in April.
The 16-300mm f/3.5-6.7 is the world's first mirrorless lens with an 18.8x zoom. This APS-C lens offers a 35mm equivalent focal range of 24-400mm, providing 6 stops of optical image stabilization at the wide end and 4.5 stops at the telephoto. Measuring just 121.4mm in length and weighing 615g (in L-Mount), it is remarkably lightweight and compact. Priced at $699 in the US, it will be available in April for Canon RF mount, L-Mount, E-Mount, and Fujifilm X-Mount.
Sigma has also introduced a new brand visual identity and announced the creation of the Sigma Foundation to contribute to the development of photo culture. At an event held at Sigma headquarters in Japan, Kazuto Yamaki reflected on his journey as the son of the company's founder, emphasizing the founding ethos that technology is an art in itself. Continuing this legacy, Yamaki announced that Sigma plans to launch the Sigma Foundation to support the development of photo culture.
The brand will collaborate with world-renowned photographers, portrait specialist Julia Hetta and Selve Sundsba, known for his work focusing on AI-generated images created using his original photos as a database.
