In a significant advancement for digital creativity, Adobe has launched innovative AI assistants for its popular tools, Adobe Express and Photoshop. These new features are designed to streamline the process of image creation and editing, making it more intuitive for users ranging from students to professionals.
Unlike traditional AI assistants that are often relegated to a sidebar, Adobe has introduced a unique mode in Adobe Express that allows users to leverage text prompts for generating new images and designs. This feature enables users to switch into an assistant mode where they can enter AI prompts, and then seamlessly revert back to the robust editing tools currently available in Express. This dual-mode functionality is aimed at enhancing user experience and increasing productivity.
Meanwhile, the new AI assistant for Photoshop is currently in closed beta testing and resides in the sidebar. Adobe's new assistant is engineered to understand various layers within images, facilitating automatic object selection and mask creation. This capability significantly reduces the time spent on repetitive tasks, allowing users to request actions such as background removal or color adjustments with ease.
According to Alexandru Costin, Adobe’s VP of generative AI, the decision to create a distinct mode for the AI assistant in Express is deliberate. The company aims to cater to both students and professionals who utilize the app, providing them with a streamlined experience. Costin emphasized that the goal is to empower users to achieve their desired outcomes without reverting to the traditional interface. He stated, “We think this approach of switching between two modes, where you get the best of both worlds, is gonna make the technology both accessible and controllable.”
In addition to these features, Adobe is experimenting with an innovative assistant concept known as Project Moonlight. This project aims to enable coordination between different assistants across Adobe tools, while also integrating with a creator’s social channels to better understand their unique style. Currently in the early stages of development and private beta, Project Moonlight promises to enhance the creative workflow for users.
Adobe is also looking into integrating Adobe Express with ChatGPT through OpenAI’s app integrations API. This potential integration could allow users to create designs directly within ChatGPT, further simplifying the creative process and fostering a more interactive design environment.
As Adobe continues to innovate and enhance its offerings, the introduction of these AI assistants represents a major step forward in making digital content creation more accessible and efficient for users worldwide.
