Oppo has unveiled the Find N5, setting a new benchmark as the world's thinnest foldable phone. When closed, this innovative book-style foldable device measures a mere 8.93mm in thickness. This impressive feat positions it as only slightly thicker than the iPhone 16 Pro, yet significantly thinner than the previous record holder, the Honor Magic V3.
The Oppo Find N5 is almost as thin as its USB-C port, highlighting the engineering marvel that Oppo has achieved. The company suggests that the primary limitation in reducing thickness further is the charging port itself. With dimensions thinner than a traditional headphone jack, the phone notably lacks one.
When unfolded, the Find N5 measures 4.21mm at its thinnest point. Although this is slightly thicker than Huawei's Mate XT Ultimate tri-fold phone at 3.66mm, the claim to being the thinnest applies to its closed state. The phone boasts a 6.62-inch outer screen and an 8.2-inch square inner LTPO display, providing more screen real estate than an iPad mini, as noted by Marques Brownlee.
The Oppo Find N5 features a sophisticated triple camera system on the back. It includes a 50MP main sensor equipped with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 50MP periscope telephoto sensor offering 3x optical zoom and OIS, and an 8MP ultra-wide camera, making it a powerhouse for photography enthusiasts.
With IPX6, X8, and X9 ratings, the Find N5 can withstand water immersion and sprays, though it's not dust-proof. Under the hood, it runs on a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and packs a 5,600mAh battery, all within a lightweight 229 grams. However, this phone comes at a premium price, starting at 2,499 Singapore dollars, approximately $1,867 USD.
Beyond its slim profile, the Find N5 offers seamless connectivity with Macs for file transfers and remote control via Oppo's O Plus Connect app. The device is available globally, except in the US, where it was anticipated to launch as the OnePlus Open 2. However, Oppo's sister brand has no plans for a foldable phone release this year, leaving American consumers in anticipation.
The smartphone industry is currently captivated by the pursuit of thinness. Samsung has teased its upcoming super-thin Galaxy S25 Edge, while reports indicate Apple's plans to introduce the iPhone 17 Air in September. This new model, set to replace the Plus variant in the iPhone 17 lineup, promises to be Apple's thinnest iPhone yet, with analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicting a 5.5mm thickness at its slimmest point, aside from a thicker rear camera bump.
