As Oppo prepares to unveil the Find N5 next week, OnePlus has announced that it will not launch a new “Open 2” foldable phone in 2025. This decision was shared in a recent community post, dispelling earlier expectations of a new foldable device similar to the Oppo Find N5.
OnePlus has confirmed its decision “not to release a foldable this year,” emphasizing that it is not abandoning the foldable phone market entirely. In 2023, OnePlus introduced its first foldable, the OnePlus Open, which was highly acclaimed.
The company explained its decision: “At OnePlus, our core strength and passion lie in setting new benchmarks and challenging the status quo across all product categories. With that in mind, we’ve carefully considered the timing and our next steps in foldable devices, and we have made the decision not to release a foldable this year.”
While this announcement may surprise some, OnePlus believes it is the right decision at this time. As Oppo leads the foldable segment with the Find N5, OnePlus remains committed to developing innovative products that align with its “Never Settle” mantra.
OnePlus stated, “Our decision to pause on foldable for this generation does not signify a departure from the category. Oppo’s Find N5 demonstrates remarkable advancements in foldable technology, including the use of cutting-edge new materials and more sophisticated engineering. We remain committed to incorporating these breakthroughs into our future products.”
Meanwhile, the Oppo Find N5 is set to debut on February 20 and will see a global release, though it is not expected to be available in the United States.
