The second week of October is upon us, and Google has yet to roll out this month's vital security patch for compatible Pixel phones. This update is anticipated to arrive imminently, but prior to its official rollout, Verizon has disclosed the changelog for the new build, giving users a glimpse of what to expect.
According to Verizon, the October update for Pixel phones will include the September 2025 security patch (as reported by 9to5Google). For the Pixel 7, Pixel 8, and Pixel 9 series, the update is designated with the build number BP3A.251005.004.B1, while the Pixel 10 model will receive build BD3A.251005.003.W3.
Verizon’s release notes highlight only two changes related to the user interface across all Pixel devices. These updates include:
Resolved an issue that caused a semi-transparent background to emerge after launching the camera. Fixed a system crash that occurred when starting or stopping casting with the Media Output Switcher. In addition to the general updates, there are device-specific fixes included in the October update. Notably, the Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 series will see the resolution of an issue where the flashlight status was not displayed in the At a Glance widget. Meanwhile, users of the Pixel 7 can look forward to improvements that address a display and graphics issue, which previously caused the screen to flicker or shut down under specific conditions.
Although the upcoming October update is relatively minor, it is essential to note that the next significant feature drop, Android 16 QPR2, is slated for release in December. This means that users can expect more substantial changes and enhancements in the near future.
Considering the previous September update was a major feature drop that introduced Material 3 Expressive, the October update's minor nature might not come as a surprise to many. However, some Pixel 10 users may feel disappointed due to the phone’s lackluster GPU performance in benchmarks and gaming scenarios. Although this update may not fully address their concerns, it is hoped that Google will improve the situation by updating the outdated PowerVR GPU drivers. This kind of update has been performed by the company in the past, although it seems that significant changes won’t arrive until Android 16 QPR2 or later.
While Google has not confirmed the exact release date for the October update, it is expected to go live shortly. Given that Verizon has already published the release notes, it is likely that the update for Pixel phones will be available later today, on October 8.
