In a significant move to enhance cybersecurity, Microsoft launched its AI-powered Security Copilot a year ago, introducing a chatbot tailored for the cybersecurity domain. Now, the tech giant is taking it a step further by expanding its capabilities with AI agents designed to autonomously assist security teams that are often overwhelmed by the volume of threats and incidents. This expansion includes the introduction of six proprietary AI agents by Microsoft, alongside five additional agents developed in collaboration with its partners.
These six new AI agents from Microsoft will be available for preview next month. They are designed with specific functions in mind, including the ability to triage and process alerts related to phishing and data loss, prioritize critical incidents, and monitor for potential vulnerabilities. According to Vasu Jakkal, the corporate vice president of Microsoft Security, “The six Microsoft Security Copilot agents enable teams to autonomously handle high-volume security and IT tasks while seamlessly integrating with Microsoft Security solutions.”
In addition to its in-house developments, Microsoft is collaborating with reputable partners such as OneTrust, Aviatrix, BlueVoyant, Tanium, and Fletch to bring third-party security agents into the fold. These integrations will facilitate more effective data breach analysis through OneTrust and allow for comprehensive root cause analysis of network outages and failures via Aviatrix. This partnership approach enhances the overall effectiveness of the Security Copilot, making it a more robust solution for organizations looking to bolster their cybersecurity measures.
The adoption of AI agents is becoming increasingly prevalent among companies like Microsoft as they seek to promote AI tools to businesses. Earlier this year, Microsoft relaunched its Copilot for businesses, offering free AI chat services and access to pay-as-you-go AI agents. While the latest AI agents within the Security Copilot are primarily targeted at security teams, Microsoft is simultaneously enhancing its phishing protection features for users of Microsoft Teams.
Starting next month, Microsoft Defender for Office 365 will extend its protective measures to Teams users, safeguarding them against phishing attempts and other cyber threats. This includes improved defenses against malicious URLs and attachments, ensuring that users are better protected in their collaborative environments.
Microsoft has also made several industry-specific security announcements and plans to unveil more at its upcoming Microsoft Secure event scheduled for April 9th. For those interested in staying updated on these developments, further information can be found on Microsoft’s security blog.
