Google is on the verge of unveiling a fresh lineup of Pixel devices during its highly anticipated "Made by Google" event this week. The spotlight will primarily be on the flagship Pixel 10 phone line, but attendees can also expect the launch of updated smartwatches and earbuds. In the weeks leading up to this event, numerous leaks have surfaced, providing insights into the expected features, colors, specifications, and prices of these devices.
Recent advertisements have offered sneak peeks of the new hardware, alongside exciting guest appearances from celebrities like Jimmy Fallon, Steph Curry, Lando Norris, and the Jonas Brothers. The anticipation surrounding the Pixel 10 series is palpable, with Google having already showcased details about the phones.
This year, Google is expected to introduce four distinct models: the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and the innovative Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Leaked images reveal a sophisticated grayish-blue color, likely named "Moonstone," alongside a bright blue variant referred to as "Indigo." The ad embedded above gives a brief glimpse of these new models, while separate teasers highlight the design elements of the Pro and Pro Fold versions.
One of the most significant upgrades appears to be the transition of the base Pixel 10 to a triple camera setup for the first time, featuring a new 5x telephoto lens. However, this advancement may come at a cost, as the main and ultrawide cameras could experience downgrades that some users might find disappointing.
All four models will likely incorporate Qi2 magnetic wireless charging, with hopes for compatibility with the new 25W charging standard announced last month. Additionally, Google is expected to unveil a range of magnetic accessories branded "Pixelsnap," which will serve as an alternative to MagSafe.
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is rumored to be the first foldable phone to achieve an IP68 rating, indicating exceptional protection against dust and water. This feature would represent a significant engineering achievement for Google, and tech enthusiasts are eager to learn more about the technology behind it.
In terms of software, Google is set to introduce Material 3 Expressive, a vibrant new design language accompanying Android 16's first quarterly update. This update may also unveil a new desktop mode for Android. Moreover, it's anticipated that AI-related announcements will accompany the hardware reveal.
As for pricing, the Pixel 10 series is expected to maintain similar pricing to the previous Pixel 9 models, starting from $799 for the Pixel 10 and reaching up to $1,799 for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. The Pixel 10 Pro XL might see a slight increase of $100, beginning at $1,199, though this could be due to a shift from a 128GB to a 256GB storage model.
The launch of new flagship Pixel phones also means an upgraded Pixel Watch 4. Following the trend set by the Pixel Watch 3, two sizes are expected: 41mm and 45mm, with color options mirroring the new phone lineup. A standout feature of the Pixel Watch 4 is an innovative charging method, allowing the watch to charge on its side, potentially enabling faster charging and a more user-friendly nightstand mode.
On the software side, the Pixel Watch 4 may receive a Material 3 Expressive aesthetic update, following the recent release of the Gemini update. Pricing for the new watch is expected to remain consistent with its predecessor, starting at $349 for the Wi-Fi model and $399 for LTE.
Last but not least, Google is set to launch the Pixel Buds 2A, a long-awaited update to the budget-friendly earbuds. Four years have passed since the debut of the Pixel Buds A-Series, and anticipation is high. While detailed specs remain scarce, leaks suggest that the new Buds will feature significant sound upgrades, including active noise cancellation and spatial audio.
Battery life is expected to be slightly inferior to that of the Pixel Buds Pro 2, with approximately seven hours of playback on the earbuds and an additional 20 hours when using the case. The anticipated price for the Buds 2A is around $149, aligning with reports of €149 in Europe.
While Google will announce these exciting devices simultaneously, they will not be available for purchase all at once. Reports indicate that the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL will go on sale starting August 28th, while the Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel Watch 4, and Pixel Buds 2A are expected to be released later, on October 9th.
