With the launch of the Pixel 10, Google is excited to unveil its innovative Journal app, designed to help users effortlessly document their daily experiences. This app allows you to quickly jot down what’s happening in your life, making it easier than ever to maintain a personal diary or track significant moments.
The Pixel Journal opens to a user-friendly compose view, enabling you to start journaling in seconds. You can enhance your entries by attaching images, maps, and even activities sourced from Health Connect. For users of the Pixel 10 series, the Journal app includes Gemini Nano-powered suggestions to inspire your writing, offering prompts like Past Topics, Memories (derived from photos or locations), and Goals, which can include Daily Reflections or Mindfulness.
To keep your journaling organized, the Entries tab presents all your writings in reverse chronological order. Additionally, the Insights feed provides a unique emoji calendar view, allowing you to gain valuable insights into your patterns and progress over time. For added privacy, the Journal can also be locked.
The Pixel Recorder is receiving a trio of exciting updates, starting with some chic Material 3 Expressive tweaks. Users will notice a thicker audio waveform and wavy progress bars, while the recording interface has been simplified to include larger buttons for easier navigation.
One of the standout features of the updated Recorder is the music creation tool. Users can hum a tune or verse, and Google will analyze the beat to apply a generative background track to it. When you’re finished, simply tap the “Create and add music” chip. The Recorder will also prompt you to “choose a vibe,” with options like Chill Beats, Cozy, Dance Party, Rainy Day Blues, Romantic, and even Surprise Me.
In another exciting update, users can now upload transcripts of their recordings directly to NotebookLM. This seamless integration makes it easier than ever to keep your notes organized and accessible.
This year, Pixel Screenshots is also enhancing its functionality with NotebookLM integration. Once you capture a screenshot, the app will automatically process it and determine its relevance for a notebook, providing suggestions for adding it.
Pixel Studio is now equipped with the latest Imagen 4 model, offering advanced tools accessible while editing screenshots with Markup. From the corner preview, users can erase objects and insert new ones using a prompt-based tool, which allows for background replacement as well. You can also add stickers to your screenshots or create new ones from elements within the image.
Gboard has introduced new Writing Tools that can check for typos, grammar, and punctuation mistakes. Beyond simple proofreading, these tools can rewrite your text to make it more professional, friendly, or elaborate. You can also shorten, rephrase, or even emojify your writing.
Accessing these Writing Tools is as simple as clicking on a new pencil with sparkles icon in the suggestion strip, or you can utilize voice commands for even greater convenience. After dictating a message, instruct Gboard to “Rephrase this” or “Make it longer.”
Additionally, the Smart Edit feature allows you to delete, replace, or insert words and punctuation using natural-language commands, such as “Change happy to excited” or “Capitalize happy.” This advancement represents a significant evolution of the original Assistant voice typing experience, now enhanced with generative AI capabilities.
