Google Chrome on Android has just received a significant upgrade with the rollout of NotebookLM's Audio Overviews feature. This innovative addition transforms content from any webpage into an engaging, interactive podcast format, enhancing the browsing experience for users. Previously, this feature was only accessible in the experimental version of Chrome, but it is now becoming widely available to users.
The latest update to Chrome for Android introduces an AI-driven enhancement to its Read Aloud feature. Rather than merely reading the entire text of a webpage, the browser now harnesses the power of AI to generate an Audio Overview of the content. This feature operates similarly to a podcast, making it easier for users to consume information on the go. Android Authority’s Mishaal Rahman first identified this feature in the stable version of Chrome for Android (version 140.0.7339.124), indicating a broader rollout for the general public.
To utilize Chrome's Read Aloud feature on your Android device, simply open any webpage, tap on the More icon (three dots) located in the top right corner, and select Listen to this page. The new Audio Overviews feature is integrated within this option, providing users with a seamless way to engage with text content. Additionally, a new button in the Reading Mode overlay, positioned next to the playback speed option, allows you to toggle AI playback on or off, giving you control over your listening experience.

This feature is not entirely new; we previously reported on it when it was launched in Chrome Canary, an experimental version of the browser that Google uses to test new features. After its initial appearance, AI audio overviews for Chrome on Android were also spotted in a beta build of the app. Now, Google is finally making this feature accessible to regular users in the stable version of Chrome.
It is worth noting that the Audio Overviews feature is derived from Google’s NotebookLM app, which was the pioneer in providing AI-generated audio summaries to transform long-form content into easily digestible podcasts. In March, Google also introduced Audio Overviews within the Gemini platform, and now with its integration into Chrome, it's exciting to see this valuable feature reach a wider audience.
