Microsoft is currently testing an exciting new feature in Windows 11 that allows users to customize the placement of hardware indicators such as volume and screen brightness. This enhancement enables users to move these pop-ups to the top-left and top-center positions on their displays, significantly improving user experience and interface interaction.
This customization feature is part of the latest Dev Channel build of Windows 11, which also introduces a revamped Recall homepage. The Recall homepage presents a user-friendly interface that highlights the top three apps and websites you've accessed within the last 24 hours, making it easier to return to your most-used content.
Previously, the volume, brightness, and airplane mode indicators were fixed in the bottom center of the screen. However, with the new build, users can reposition these on-screen indicators, allowing for a cleaner workspace and minimizing disruptions when using applications. Notably, users will not have the option to place indicators in the top-right position, likely due to its proximity to the minimize, maximize, and close buttons of applications.
In addition to the customizable indicator positions, Microsoft is also rolling out the new Recall homepage. According to Microsoft’s Windows Insider team, “The new homepage brings your recent activity and top-used content front and center, enabling you to easily get back to your previous tasks.” This feature showcases recent snapshots alongside the most frequently accessed apps or websites, streamlining navigation for users.
The Recall feature is also receiving a new navigation bar on the left side, which allows users to seamlessly switch between the new homepage interface and the Timeline feature. This enhancement provides a more comprehensive view of all your snapshots and recent activities, enhancing productivity and user efficiency.
Currently, these innovative changes are being tested with Windows Insiders. Users can anticipate these features appearing more broadly in Windows 11 over the coming months. As Microsoft continues to refine its operating system, these updates promise to enhance the overall user experience, making Windows 11 not only more functional but also more intuitive.
