Apple is reportedly gearing up for a significant expansion of its iPad apps, potentially introducing four new applications that would enhance its existing suite of professional tools. According to a recent report, the tech giant may soon launch Pixelmator Pro, MainStage, Motion, and Compressor for the iPad. These additions would complement Apple's already established pro-level applications, Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro, which made their debut on the iPad last year.
The news of these potential new releases comes from MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris, who uncovered “new App Store IDs” related to these applications. This discovery suggests that Apple is actively working on these apps, paving the way for their eventual launch.
The app Compressor serves as a media encoding and delivery tool, allowing users to customize their video and audio export settings. It is designed to work alongside Final Cut Pro, enhancing the video editing experience on the iPad.
Motion, another valuable addition, is Apple’s dedicated motion graphics tool. It enables users to create titles, transitions, and visual effects, further enriching the capabilities of the Final Cut Pro app. Together, these two applications provide a comprehensive suite for video creators.
On the music side, MainStage functions as a companion app to Logic Pro, tailored for live performances. Musicians can customize their on-stage instrument and vocal setups, making it an essential tool for performers looking to elevate their live shows.
In addition to these apps, Apple also acquired Pixelmator last November. While a less capable version of the Pixelmator app is currently available for iPad, expectations are high for the release of Pixelmator Pro, which is anticipated to be more powerful and closely aligned with the Mac version of the software.
As of now, there is no official word on the release dates for these new iPad apps. If this rumor is confirmed, it would signify a considerable expansion of Apple’s professional app catalog for the iPad. This launch would also coincide with the recent unveiling of the M5 iPad Pro, suggesting a strategic alignment between new hardware and software capabilities.
In an ideal scenario, Apple would have announced these new iPad apps alongside the new hardware, similar to the rollout of the M4 iPad Pro, Final Cut Pro, and Logic Pro last year. However, it appears that the software and hardware teams within Apple may not have been fully aligned on their announcements this year.
