NASA is inviting the public to participate in the exciting Artemis II test flight, where four skilled astronauts will embark on a journey around the Moon. This mission is crucial for testing the systems and hardware necessary for deep space exploration. As part of the agency’s initiative, “Send Your Name with Artemis II,” anyone interested can secure a spot by signing up before the deadline of January 21.
Participants will have the unique opportunity to launch their name aboard the Orion spacecraft and the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket, alongside renowned NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian Space Agency (CSA) astronaut Jeremy Hansen. Lori Glaze, acting associate administrator for the Exploration Systems Development Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington, emphasized the significance of Artemis II, stating, “Artemis II is a key test flight in our effort to return humans to the Moon’s surface and build toward future missions to Mars, and it’s also an opportunity to inspire people across the globe.”
As part of this initiative, all collected names will be stored on an SD card that will be loaded aboard the Orion spacecraft prior to launch. In return for their participation, individuals will receive a boarding pass featuring their name, which serves as a memorable collectable. To add your name and obtain an English-language boarding pass, visit https://go.nasa.gov/artemisnames. For those interested in a Spanish-language boarding pass, please visit https://go.nasa.gov/TuNombreArtemis.
The Artemis II test flight is poised to be a milestone event in a new era of innovation and exploration. Scheduled to launch no later than April 2026, this approximately 10-day mission marks the first crewed flight under NASA’s Artemis campaign. It represents a significant step toward new U.S.-crewed missions on the Moon, which will ultimately help pave the way for sending the first American astronauts to Mars.
