The parents of missing baby Emmanuel Haro were arrested on Friday under suspicion of murder, more than a week after the child's mother claimed that her 7-month-old son was abducted. This shocking development was confirmed by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, which stated that the arrests took place at the family's residence in Cabazon. Authorities are still actively searching for the baby, raising concerns about his safety and well-being.
By 10 a.m. on the day of the arrests, a crowd began to gather near the Haro family’s home located on Ramona Street, adjacent to the 10 Freeway and opposite the Morongo Casino. This local gathering coincided with a vigil being held for baby Emmanuel, highlighting the community's concern and support for the missing child. The emotional atmosphere underscored the urgent need for answers in this distressing case.
Emmanuel Haro was reported missing on August 14, under circumstances that raised suspicions. His mother, Rebecca Haro, alleged that she was attacked and rendered unconscious outside a Big 5 store in Yucaipa. Upon arrival, sheriff's deputies conducted a thorough search of the area but were unable to locate the missing infant. Authorities noted that Emmanuel was last seen wearing a black onesie, yet details surrounding the alleged attack remain unclear.
During a subsequent interview with detectives, Rebecca Haro faced questions regarding inconsistencies in her initial statement, which led to her ceasing communication with investigators. Over the weekend, law enforcement conducted searches at the family home in Cabazon, serving multiple search warrants and reviewing surveillance footage from relevant locations in the case.
In a statement made earlier this week, an attorney representing Emmanuel's father, Jake Haro, asserted that the family is cooperating with authorities. Although Rebecca Haro declined to take a polygraph test when requested by law enforcement, her attorney characterized her behavior as emotionally driven due to the distress of having a missing child. It was reported that the couple voluntarily surrendered their phones and allowed detectives to search their residence.
During the investigation, authorities confiscated two iPads—one of which remained in its original packaging—and three Xbox gaming consoles. Additionally, the family vehicle was also seized as part of the ongoing investigation into the whereabouts of their son.
In June 2023, Jake Haro was convicted of willful child cruelty related to a separate incident involving another child in Hemet. He is scheduled to appear in court on September 2 for a probation violation. Jake Haro claims that he was merely giving a baby girl a bath when an accident occurred, but medical reports indicated that the injuries sustained did not align with his account. His attorney, Vincent Hughes, emphasized that while Jake has a criminal history, it does not implicate him in the current disappearance of his son.
“They just want their son back,” Hughes expressed. “They want the same level of diligence in the search for Emmanuel that is being directed towards questioning them.”
On Wednesday, authorities confirmed that Riverside County child protective services had removed a 2-year-old child from the Haro family home. The reasons behind this action remain unclear, as a spokesperson for Riverside County declined to comment, citing state confidentiality laws. This incident adds another layer of complexity to an already troubling situation, raising further questions regarding the family’s circumstances.
The search for baby Emmanuel Haro continues, as the community hopes for his safe return and seeks justice in light of the troubling allegations against his parents.
