SALT LAKE CITY – In an exhilarating showdown during the 2025 Summer League, the Utah Jazz triumphed over the Philadelphia 76ers with a final score of 93-89 at the Jon M. Huntsman Center on Saturday night. This game featured a stellar performance from VJ Edgecombe, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, who showcased his scoring prowess by leading all players with 28 points.
The first half of the game saw the Jazz taking a commanding lead, ending the second quarter with a score of 52-43. Despite the apparent dominance, the 76ers were poised for a comeback, setting the stage for an intense second half. The Jazz's early success was characterized by strong offensive plays and solid teamwork, suggesting a comfortable victory was within reach.
As the game progressed into the third quarter, the 76ers tightened their defense, limiting the Jazz's scoring to just 14 points in that period. This defensive effort allowed Philadelphia to chip away at their deficit, making the final quarter a nail-biting affair. Despite being outscored in the paint by a margin of 48-30 and committing 15 turnovers, the Jazz managed to hold onto their slim lead.
In addition to VJ Edgecombe’s standout performance, who also contributed 10 rebounds, four assists, one steal, and two blocks, other Jazz players made significant impacts. Kyle Filipowski led the team with 22 points and added six rebounds, two assists, and one block. Brice Sensabaugh also shined, scoring 19 points on an impressive 5-for-8 shooting from beyond the arc, along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
The 76ers saw notable contributions from Adem Bona, who recorded 16 points and eight rebounds, while rookies Johni Broome and Justin Edwards each chipped in with matching 13-point performances. Broome also grabbed five rebounds, whereas Edwards added three.
Both teams will return to action on Monday night, with the 76ers facing the Oklahoma City Thunder at 7 PM ET on ESPN. Meanwhile, the Jazz will go up against the Memphis Grizzlies at 9 PM ET on NBA TV, promising more excitement in the ongoing 2025 Summer League.
