Two NFL insiders found themselves in a heated debate on Wednesday over conflicting reports concerning a supposed run-in between Raiders minority owner Tom Brady and Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford. Both sources confirmed that the two met at a ski resort in Montana recently, but opinions differ on whether the encounter was coincidental or premeditated.
Initially, Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz reported that Stafford and Brady met at Stafford's Montana home, where they spent time together and went skiing. Schultz further claimed that Brady has been actively recruiting Stafford to join the Raiders, with discussions reportedly ongoing. In a post on social media platform X, Schultz elaborated on the meeting.
However, about 30 minutes later, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport offered a different perspective. Rapoport described the meeting as an unplanned encounter at a ski resort, emphasizing that the conversation was neither extensive nor in-depth. He also denied any recruiting efforts by Brady, adding that Brady did not host Stafford, contrary to previous reports.
This discrepancy in reports seemed to agitate Schultz, who responded with a follow-up post on X, indirectly challenging the idea that the Stafford-Brady meeting was a mere coincidence. "If you really think Tom Brady and Matthew Stafford just happened to run into each other at a ski resort in Montana — of all places — at the exact same time, I’ve got a bridge to sell you," Schultz wrote. He asserted that they were together over the weekend and reiterated that multiple teams are interested in Stafford, with Brady leading the charge to recruit him to the Raiders, should the Rams decide to trade him.
As speculation continues, Matthew Stafford's future with the Rams remains uncertain. Stafford's camp has received permission to engage in discussions with other teams about contract numbers. Although Stafford is due a $26 million salary in 2025, he is reportedly seeking $50 million per year. This ongoing situation adds another layer of intrigue to the potential move to the Raiders.
