LONDON – Sean Brady is gearing up for a thrilling showdown against Leon Edwards at UFC Fight Night 255, and he is confident that he will present a unique challenge to the former UFC welterweight champion. Brady, who holds a record of 17-1 in MMA and 7-1 in UFC, is set to face Edwards, who boasts an impressive record of 22-4 in MMA and 14-3 in UFC, in the highly anticipated main event slated for Saturday at The O2, available on ESPN+
In his recent appearances, Edwards has faced some of the toughest competitors in the welterweight division, including Kamaru Usman twice, Colby Covington, and Belal Muhammad. Each of these fighters has a strong wrestling background, but Brady believes he brings a different style to the octagon. “A lot of those guys are strictly wrestlers,” Brady explained to reporters during the UFC Fight Night 255 media day. “Like Colby’s a wrestler, Kamaru’s a wrestler. If you look at their records, none of them really have submissions.”
Brady asserts that his approach to grappling sets him apart. “I just think I’m a much bigger submission threat than a lot of the guys he’s fought, and I think I’m the biggest submission threat in the division,” he said. This perspective emphasizes Brady's belief that he is a different level of grappler, potentially providing a significant challenge for Edwards.
Despite being informed that their matchup is a No. 1 contender bout, Brady is not letting future aspirations cloud his focus. “I’m not trying to get a title shot out of this,” he said. “I’m not trying to rush it. That’s what I did before in my career.” Brady reflected on his previous fight against Muhammad, admitting that he was overly eager for a title shot, which did not work in his favor. “I’m going to go out there, I’m going to do my job, get my hand raised by any means necessary, and then wherever I go from there, I go.”
Both fighters are motivated by their past losses to the current UFC welterweight champion, Muhammad. However, Brady cautions Edwards against looking too far ahead. “I think that’s a bad look on Leon to be thinking about other people when all I’m thinking about is fighting him,” Brady remarked. He noted that while Edwards may be contemplating becoming the No. 1 contender and seeking revenge on Belal, he should remember that he has a formidable opponent in front of him. “He’s got someone who’s trying to kill him Saturday night in front of him, and he has more things to be concerned about than being a No. 1 contender in the division.”
As the fight approaches, both fighters are ready to showcase their skills and determination. Fans eagerly await what promises to be an exhilarating main event at UFC Fight Night 255.
