NFL Scouting Combine 2025: A Deep Dive into Top Prospects

Participation at the NFL Scouting Combine has significantly decreased in recent years. Notably, none of my top five prospects—Cam Ward, Abdul Carter, Travis Hunter, Mason Graham, and Jalon Walker—participated in the event held in Indianapolis. Nevertheless, the Combine remains a critical proving ground for unheralded players hoping to make a mark in the middle rounds of the NFL Draft. It serves as a valuable opportunity for evaluators to revisit game tape to reassess what they may have missed, both positively and negatively.

Running Backs Shine in Indianapolis

One position that truly excelled this year was the running backs. Six running backs made it into my top 100 rankings, marking the highest number I've included since 2018. An impressive fourteen running backs clocked sub-4.50-second 40-yard dash times at Lucas Oil Stadium, and this figure does not even include everyone's top-rated running back, Ashton Jeanty, who opted not to test. Expect to see numerous starters emerge from this year's crop of talented running backs.

After thoroughly reviewing the tape on Combine standouts like Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden and Texas A&M defensive end Shemar Stewart, here’s how my top-100 draft board shapes up following a week of testing in Indianapolis. Please note that positional value is factored into the construction of my draft board.

Top 10 Prospects for the 2025 NFL Draft

1. Cam Ward, QB, Miami (FL)

Cam Ward stands out with the kind of confidence you desire from a franchise quarterback prospect. He possesses top-tier arm talent and his career trajectory indicates significant upward potential. While he may not match the elite caliber of last year’s top prospects, his talent is undeniable.

2. Abdul Carter, EDGE, Penn State

Abdul Carter has only been a full-time edge rusher for one season, but he has established himself as the premier pass-rusher in the country. His tools are nothing short of All-Pro caliber.

3. Travis Hunter, CB/WR, Colorado

Travis Hunter is the most versatile athlete in this draft class, boasting the highest grades at both wide receiver and cornerback. This unique dual-threat makes him a truly special prospect capable of excelling in both roles at the NFL level.

4. Mason Graham, DL, Michigan

Mason Graham may not be the most physically imposing defensive tackle, but his consistency and relentless motor make him a standout. He has very few weaknesses in his game.

5. Jalon Walker, EDGE, Georgia

Jalon Walker combines explosiveness, ferocity, and an instinctual feel for rushing the passer. Although his size may be a concern, many successful pass rushers have thrived with similar frames.

6. Kelvin Banks Jr., OT, Texas

Kelvin Banks Jr. is a three-year starter who has demonstrated growth each season. He was battle-tested in the SEC and has proven himself as a dominant force in both pass protection and the run game.

7. Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Arizona

Tetairoa McMillan is an impressive 6-foot-5 receiver who has amassed 3,414 yards and 26 touchdowns in three seasons. His ability to make plays beyond his frame is unmatched in this draft class.

8. Colston Loveland, TE, Michigan

Colston Loveland is a natural receiving tight end with room to grow as a blocker. At only 20 years old, he poses a significant threat after climbing past linebacker levels in defenses.

9. Armand Membou, IOL, Missouri

Armand Membou, originally a right tackle, has the potential to become an All-Pro guard. His ability to gain leverage and locate linebackers in space is among the best in this class.

10. Will Campbell, OT, LSU

Will Campbell is a three-year starter at left tackle and is arguably the most technically sound lineman in the draft. While some view him as a guard, I believe he has the talent to succeed at tackle.

More Notable Prospects

As the draft approaches, keep an eye on these additional prospects who showed out during the Combine:

Will Johnson, CB, Michigan - Despite a turf-toe injury limiting his snaps, he was the top-ranked player on my board coming into the season.Walter Nolen, DL, Ole Miss - An explosive and flexible defensive lineman, he's a plug-and-play run defender.Mykel Williams, EDGE, Georgia - Projected as an edge rusher, his twitch and extraordinary length could be a nightmare for offensive tackles.Malaki Starks, S, Georgia - A versatile safety, he can fill multiple roles in the secondary effectively.Tyler Warren, TE, Penn State - Known for his route-running ability and size, he's a dynamic option at tight end.

With the 2025 NFL Draft on the horizon, these prospects will be critical to watch as teams look to bolster their rosters with emerging talent. As evaluations continue, expect player rankings to evolve, but these standout performances at the Combine have set the stage for an exciting draft season ahead.
