After experiencing difficulties on the back nine during his opening round, Max Homa made a remarkable comeback in the second round of the PGA Championship held at the prestigious Quail Hollow Club. Homa kicked off his second round with an impressive start, showcasing his skills on the challenging course.
Homa quickly gained momentum by birdieing the par-4 10th hole and then continuing his strong performance with a birdie on the par-3 13th. His skillful play reached a peak when he almost holed his tee shot on the 347-yard par-4 14th, resulting in a tap-in eagle. Following this impressive shot, he added another birdie at the par-5 15th, bringing his score to an outstanding 5 under for the round and 3 under for the championship.
As he approached the infamous “Green Mile” (holes 16-18), Homa maintained his focus, starting with a pair of pars before showcasing his finesse by chipping in for a birdie at the par-4 18th. This exceptional performance allowed him to turn in a remarkable score of 6-under 30 for the front nine, positioning him at 4 under overall and just two strokes off the lead.
Homa's success was not limited to the front nine. He continued his impressive play on the inward half, recording two additional birdies and a single bogey. His total for the day culminated in a sensational 7-under 64, marking his lowest round on the PGA Tour since August 2023. Notably, this round was also his best-ever performance in a major championship, surpassing his previous best by three shots.
After signing his card, Homa found himself tied for third place, just three strokes behind the leader. With his experience and strong showing at Quail Hollow, where he claimed his first career PGA Tour victory at the 2019 Wells Fargo Championship (now known as the Truist Championship), Homa is certainly a contender to watch as the tournament progresses.
