On Saturday, Dallas Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer provided updates regarding the team's star pass rusher, Micah Parsons, following his conduct during the preseason finale against the Atlanta Falcons on Friday. Schottenheimer revealed that he has yet to speak with Parsons but intends to do so shortly. “I have not,” Schottenheimer stated during a conference call when asked about his conversations with the young defensive standout.
Schottenheimer acknowledged being aware of Parsons' actions during the game, which raised eyebrows among fans and analysts alike. “I’m aware of the conduct, but I have not had a chance to talk to Micah. I will talk to Micah tomorrow and get a chance to sit down and visit with him and handle it internally,” he explained, emphasizing the importance of addressing the situation responsibly.
During the game against the Falcons, Micah Parsons was observed lying down on the training table for an extended period and notably did not wear his jersey, a requirement set by Schottenheimer for all players who are not participating in the game. In response to these actions, Schottenheimer mentioned, “Without talking to Micah, I need to figure out what he was doing and why he was doing it. Until I talk to him, I’m obviously not going to talk about it.”
After the game, Parsons chose not to comment on the situation, leaving many questions unanswered. Schottenheimer later confirmed that Parsons underwent an MRI exam on his back due to complaints of tightness in that area. Fortunately, the results of the MRI came back clean, which Schottenheimer noted, saying, “At the end of the day, it sounds like the MRI came back pretty clean and we’ll see how he feels tomorrow when we see him.”
It’s essential to highlight that Micah Parsons is currently engaged in a hold-in as he awaits a contract extension. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones clarified that Parsons is under contract for three more seasons, including his salary for the current season, with the possibility of the team placing a franchise tag on him for the next two seasons.
While Parsons has not participated in any practice throughout the entirety of training camp, he has been present for walkthroughs and team meetings. On August 1, Parsons made headlines by requesting a trade from the team, adding another layer of complexity to his current situation.
As the Cowboys prepare for the upcoming season, the resolution of Micah Parsons' situation will be crucial for the team's defensive strategy and overall performance. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as coach Schottenheimer addresses these issues in the coming days.
