BMW has officially introduced its latest entry-level customer race car, the M2 Racing. This highly anticipated model, which has been in development since 2023, serves as the successor to the M2 CS Racing and is set to be available worldwide in time for the 2026 motorsports season.
In a recent press release, BMW M CEO Franciscus van Meel emphasized the brand's commitment to customer racing, stating, “At BMW M Motorsport, supporting customer racing with cars that are easy to maintain, cost-efficient, and thrilling to drive is a top priority.” The introduction of the BMW M2 Racing continues a proud tradition of delivering affordable race cars that provide teams and drivers with uncompromising performance, durability, and pure driving pleasure.
The new M2 Racing is built on the proven 2 Series platform, following the successful models of the M235i Racing, M240i Racing, and M2 CS Racing. Utilizing a robust M2 chassis, the race car variant retains essential features from the standard vehicle, including the steering wheel, center console, and iDrive screen, while integrating critical performance enhancements such as a roll cage, specialized tuning, and racing-specific components.
Additional customization options for the M2 Racing include a rear wing, a Sabelt GT-PRO carbon fiber driver seat, and advanced datalogging software, making it a versatile choice for racing enthusiasts.
Under the hood, the M2 Racing boasts a B48 series turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a 7-speed ZF automatic transmission. This powerful powertrain delivers an impressive 313 horsepower and 420 Nm (309 pound-feet) of torque. With a top speed of 270 km/h (approximately 168 mph) and a lightweight design weighing in at just 1,498 kg (~3,300 pounds), the M2 Racing is engineered for high-performance racing.
More than just a track-ready vehicle, the M2 Racing underwent rigorous testing across three different vehicles, each focusing on distinct aspects: powertrain, dynamics, and endurance. Notably, the endurance model alone completed an astounding 30,000 km (18,641 miles) of testing to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
The M2 Racing is designed for a variety of motorsports applications, including personal track days, cup series racing, and endurance events. Customers can expect to see the car available globally, with sales launching this June through select BMW M Motorsport dealers. The base price for this factory-tuned racing car is set at €98,000 (approximately $111,414 at current exchange rates), which offers a competitive value for a high-performance racing vehicle.
