Pennsylvania State Police are currently conducting an investigation into an alleged arson incident that occurred at the governor’s residence in Harrisburg, resulting in a “significant amount of damage” to the building. Governor Josh Shapiro took to social media platform X to share that he and his family were abruptly awakened by the sounds of banging on their door, only to find that an arsonist had set fire to their home during the night.
Fortunately, Governor Shapiro, along with his family, was safely evacuated from the residence by the Pennsylvania State Police. He expressed his gratitude in a post, emphasizing that, “Every day, we stand with the law enforcement and first responders who run towards danger to protect our communities. Last night, they did so for our family – and Lori and I are eternally grateful to them for keeping us safe.” This incident took place shortly after the governor had celebrated the first night of Passover.
The Pennsylvania State Police have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing but have indicated that this incident is being treated as an act of arson. According to a news release, the Harrisburg Bureau of Fire responded to the fire at approximately 2:00 a.m. on Sunday morning. While the fire was successfully extinguished, it did cause considerable damage to a portion of the governor’s residence.
In light of this serious incident, law enforcement is taking proactive measures. The Pennsylvania State Police are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individuals involved in this heinous act. Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday also expressed his relief that Governor Shapiro and his family were unharmed.
