Timothée Chalamet has set a new milestone by becoming the youngest individual to clinch the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role at the SAG Awards last night. The actor received widespread acclaim from his peers for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in the film A Complete Unknown.
Following this significant achievement, Chalamet took to Instagram to express his elation. He shared a series of photos accompanied by the enthusiastic caption, “YEOOOOOOO I WON I CANT BELIEVE IT !!!!!!! THANK YOU TO MY PEERS FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART !!!!!!! ALL THE MEMBERS OF THE SCREEN ACTORS GUILD !!! GUNNA CELEBRATE TONIGHT THANK U THANK U THANK U !!!!!!!”
During his acceptance speech, Chalamet extended his gratitude to his mother, who was present with him at the ceremony, and to Bob Dylan himself. He remarked, “I know the classiest thing would be to downplay the effort that went into this role and how much this means to me, but the truth is this was five and a half years of my life. I poured everything I had into playing this incomparable artist, Mr. Bob Dylan, a true American hero. It was the honor of a lifetime playing him.”
Chalamet continued, “I know we’re in a subjective business, but I’m really in pursuit of greatness. People don’t usually talk like this, but I want to be one of the greats. I’m inspired by the greats here tonight. I’m as inspired by Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando, and Viola Davis as I am by Michael Jordan and Michael Phelps, and I want to be up there. So I’m deeply grateful to that. This award doesn’t signify that, but it’s a little more ammo, a little more fuel to keep going. Thank you so much.”
The SAG Trophy marks the first major industry recognition in Chalamet's career. Previously, he was a contender for the BAFTA, but the award went to Adrian Brody for his role in The Brutalist. Both Chalamet and Brody are now in the running for the Oscar for Best Actor. Other nominees in the category include Colman Domingo, Ralph Fiennes, and Sebastian Stan.
