In an exciting revelation for fans of the Spider-Man franchise, Tom Holland has officially announced the title for the much-anticipated fourth installment, now known as Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This announcement came in a video clip during CinemaCon, where Holland confirmed that the film is set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
Filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton, known for his work on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, took the stage at CinemaCon to share his excitement about the project. Amidst a light-hearted moment where he joked about losing $200 at a Las Vegas roulette table, Cretton expressed his deep appreciation for being part of the Spider-Man legacy. “To say that it’s an honor to be standing on this stage is a pretty big understatement,” he stated, highlighting his lifelong admiration for the character.
According to Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day promises to deliver a unique experience for audiences, describing it as “a ride that we haven’t really seen before.” In the announcement video, Holland expressed his gratitude to fans, stating, “Thank you for all of your support.” He emphasized that this new film represents “a fresh start” for the beloved superhero.
The title, Brand New Day, pays homage to a notable 2008 storyline in the Spider-Man comics, which followed a universe-altering event where everyone forgot who Spider-Man was. This storyline is particularly significant as it also marked the end of Peter Parker’s marriage to Mary Jane Watson. The connection to this storyline is especially poignant, given that the previous film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, concluded with the world forgetting both Spider-Man and Peter Parker's identities.
Tom Holland last reprised his role as Spider-Man in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, which became a massive success at the global box office, grossing over $1.9 billion. This film was directed by Jon Watts, who previously directed Holland in the earlier Spider-Man films: Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019). The screenplay for the upcoming film is penned by Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna, who also contributed to the writing of No Way Home.
This announcement comes shortly after the release of Disney’s Captain America: Brave New World, a part of the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe. The partnership between Sony and Disney, established in 2015, has allowed the iconic character of Spider-Man to be integrated into the MCU, much to the delight of fans worldwide.
Looking ahead, Marvel enthusiasts can anticipate the release of Thunderbolts in May, followed by The Fantastic Four: First Steps, set to premiere on July 25. Additionally, next year will bring the highly awaited Avengers: Doomsday, which recently revealed a star-studded cast.
In addition to his role in Spider-Man, it was reported by The Hollywood Reporter that Tom Holland is also set to star alongside Austin Butler in the upcoming crime feature American Speed for Amazon MGM Studios.
