Netflix has officially unveiled a first look at its highly anticipated “Pride and Prejudice” limited series, as production kicks off in the U.K. This new adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel promises to bring fresh perspectives while remaining true to the beloved story.
Joining the stellar cast of this Pride and Prejudice adaptation are several notable actors. Rufus Sewell, known for his role in “The Diplomat,” will portray the character of Mr. Bennet. Freya Mavor, recognized for her work in “Industry,” takes on the role of Jane Bennet. Jamie Demetriou, famous for his performance in “Stath Lets Flats,” will play Mr. Collins, while Daryl McCormack of “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery” fame is set to portray Mr. Bingley.
Other exciting cast members include Louis Partridge (“House of Guinness”) as Mr. Wickham, Rhea Norwood (“Heartstopper”) as Lydia Bennet, and Siena Kelly (“Black Mirror”) as Caroline Bingley. Newcomers Hopey Parish and Hollie Avery will make their debuts as Mary Bennet and Kitty Bennet, respectively. The series also features talents like Anjana Vasan (“We Are Lady Parts”), Sebastian Armesto (“Gangs of London”), and Fiona Shaw (“Killing Eve”) as Lady Catherine de Bourgh.
Previously announced cast members include Emma Corrin (“Nosferatu”) as Elizabeth Bennet, Jack Lowden (“Slow Horses”) as Mr. Darcy, and Olivia Colman (“The Crown”) as Mrs. Bennet. With a total of six episodes, this limited series promises to be a faithful adaptation of Austen’s timeless 1813 novel.
The project is helmed by renowned director Euros Lyn from “Heartstopper” and is penned by screenwriter Dolly Alderton. Alderton expressed her enthusiasm in a statement, saying, “Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story, and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it. Jane Austen’s ‘Pride and Prejudice’ is the blueprint for romantic comedy – it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life.”
The executive production team for the series includes Emma Corrin, Laura Lankester, Dolly Alderton, Euros Lyn, Will Johnston, and Louise Mutter for Lookout Point. Producer Lisa Osborne will also play a key role in bringing this adaptation to fruition.
