Kim Kardashian made a striking entrance at the Academy Museum Gala held on Saturday night in Los Angeles. What caught everyone's attention was her unusual headwear – a complete face mask that left her unable to see. In an exclusive statement on the red carpet, Kardashian revealed the inspiration behind her look, saying, “Margiela couture,” created by designer Glenn Martens. She expressed her admiration for the fashion house, stating, “You know, I love Margiela.”
Kardashian, who flew in her favorite makeup artist, Mario, from New York for this last-minute appearance, added, “I’m sure he’s not so happy with it.” Despite the mask, she assured fans that she was in “full hair and makeup” underneath and planned to remove the mask once she was inside the gala venue.
While discussing her unique look, Kardashian mentioned how it resembled her successful lingerie brand, saying, “It does look very Skims-y. That’s why I was drawn to it when the Margiela couture show came out. I saw this look and I was like, ‘That is so Skims to me.’” This connection between high fashion and her brand highlights Kardashian's ability to blend personal style with her business ventures.
In addition to her striking gala appearance, Kardashian also shared insights about her latest Skims product—a limited line of $32 merkins, officially named “faux hair micro string thongs.” These innovative thongs sold out within minutes of being released. “That was just a fun idea that I had,” she explained. “There was a shoot, and someone wanted to, like, have hair down there once. And I was like, ‘Couldn’t this just be easy and have it on a thong?’ And so we made that happen. I had no idea that it would get that reaction and sell out in a few minutes.”
As for whether Kardashian removed her mask during the evening's dinner and program, there has been no confirmation. The gala honored several prominent figures this year, including Penélope Cruz, Walter Salles, Bruce Springsteen, and Bowen Yang.
