The talented singer and actress Halle Bailey has recently been granted a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend, the rapper DDG. According to reports from The Associated Press, this legal action requires DDG, whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., to maintain a distance from Bailey and their 17-month-old son until a scheduled hearing on Friday, June 6.
Halle Bailey and DDG reportedly began their relationship in early 2022. Their son, Halo, was born in December 2023, but the couple's romance ended the following year. The dynamics of their relationship have recently come under scrutiny as Bailey has alleged various forms of abuse in her request for the restraining order.
In the documents submitted to the court, Bailey detailed her experiences, stating, “Throughout our relationship, Daryl has been and continues to be physically, verbally, emotionally, and financially abusive towards me." She expressed a need for legal protection for both herself and her son, Halo, citing “multiple acts of physical violence” occurring since their breakup.
Bailey also mentioned that DDG has leveraged his significant presence on platforms like Twitch and YouTube to provoke harassment against her. She claimed, “Whenever he wishes to cause upset, he starts bad mouthing me to his several millions of fans.” This has resulted in Bailey receiving numerous threats and hateful messages on social media platforms, stemming from DDG's comments alleging that she is withholding their son and engaging with other men.
Halle Bailey is widely recognized for her musical endeavors alongside her sister in the duo Chloe x Halle. She has also made waves in the film industry, notably starring as Ariel in the live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid. In addition to her acting, she has launched a successful solo music career, with her latest single, “Back and Forth,” released in February.
On the other hand, DDG has gained fame as a popular streamer, attracting millions of subscribers across his Twitch and YouTube channels. He recently released his studio album, Blame the Chat, earlier this month, contributing to his growing presence in the music industry.
Representatives for both Halle Bailey and DDG have not yet responded to requests for comments from Pitchfork. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic abuse, it is crucial to seek help and support from appropriate resources.
