Haley Joel Osment, the Oscar-nominated former child star renowned for his role in The Sixth Sense, was arrested on April 8 for alleged public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance. According to police reports confirmed by People, the incident occurred at the Mammoth Mountain ski resort located in central California.
At around 2 p.m., law enforcement responded to a call regarding Osment's behavior. Upon arrival, they found the actor already in the company of resort staff. Following the assessment of the situation, Osment was taken into custody but was later released. The substance that led to his arrest remains unidentified and has been sent to a lab for analysis. The Mono County District Attorney’s Office is now tasked with determining whether or not to pursue prosecution against the actor.
The 37-year-old actor has had previous run-ins with the law, including an arrest in 2006 when he crashed his car into a mailbox. At the time, Osment, who was just 18 years old, pleaded no contest to charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of marijuana. As a result, he was sentenced to three years of probation and required to attend a minimum of 26 Alcoholics Anonymous meetings over the span of six months.
In addition to his legal issues, Osment faced personal hardships earlier this year when his home in Altadena was destroyed in the Eaton fire. Reflecting on the loss, he expressed his deep emotional connection to the house, stating, “My heart would be so full every time I drove home. It was such a special place. I loved living there.”
