Did you know that the Ford GT was technically still in production? It’s true—Ford never completely halted manufacturing of the limited-run GT Mk IV track model, which made its debut in 2023. However, the impressive eight-year journey of this iconic sports car is now officially coming to a close. Today, Ford announced the final production wave of the GT Mk IV, signifying an end to a remarkable chapter in automotive history.
With most of the planned 67 units already spoken for, Ford will open order books for the remaining few examples of the GT Mk IV over the next few weeks. Although the company has not specified the exact number of units left, enthusiasts and collectors alike are eager to secure one of these coveted cars before they vanish from production forever.
Each Ford GT Mk IV is powered by a formidable twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine, producing over 820 horsepower. This incredible power enables the vehicle to launch from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 3.0 seconds. For comparison, the standard road-going GT utilized a smaller 3.5-liter V-6 engine, generating 660 hp. The enhanced power and performance of the GT Mk IV truly set it apart in the world of high-performance sports cars.
Built on a custom carbon-fiber chassis developed by Multimatic, the GT Mk IV features a range of aerodynamic upgrades that help it generate over 2,400 pounds of downforce at 150 mph. This remarkable downforce, combined with its ability to corner at over 3 Gs, showcases the engineering excellence behind this track-focused vehicle. Furthermore, the Multimatic Adaptive Spool Valve dampers, which can be adjusted from the cockpit, significantly enhance its on-track performance.
Of course, this level of engineering and performance does not come at a low cost. Each GT Mk IV carries a hefty price tag of around $1.7 million. As Ford prepares to conclude production, it is clear that the GT Mk IV will stand as a testament to the brand's commitment to innovation and performance in the sports car arena. Once these final units are sold, the production of the Ford GT will officially come to an end, marking the conclusion of a remarkable legacy.
