Today marks an exciting milestone for Destiny 2 players as the highly anticipated Desert Perpetual raid goes live. This event initiates a race among players to be the first to complete the raid, a beloved tradition within the Destiny 2 community. The contest mode, which features the game's most challenging difficulty, will remain active for a thrilling 48 hours. Participants who successfully complete the raid will earn an exclusive emblem and, of course, the coveted bragging rights associated with being among the first to finish.
As players prepare to dive into the Destiny 2 raid, it’s crucial to be aware of certain items that have been disabled for this event. While the list of disabled gear is currently manageable, it’s anticipated that the list may expand as the event progresses. This information is drawn from a recent Bungie Help post, and updates will be provided as necessary. Here’s a summary of the items that have been disabled:
Exotic Armor Perk – Spirit of the Liar (disabled across all of Destiny 2) Weapons: Outbreak Perfected, Third Iteration, Choir of One, Icebreaker, Barrow Dyad, Hierarchy of Needs, Grand Overture Armor Mod: Distribution Seasonal Weapon Mods and Temporal Tracker ModNotably, the new exotic scout rifle, Third Iteration, has been reported to deal 150% of the intended damage when equipped with the anti-barrier perk. Additionally, players have noticed that Choir of One has unexpectedly increased its massive ammo reserves. However, the status of other weapons remains unclear. The Outbreak Perfected, in particular, is a common choice for many players, making its disablement a significant drawback.
In an effort to alleviate server strain—an issue that can severely impact raid races—Bungie has disabled bounty and weapon leveling progression for kills during the raid. However, concerns regarding the integrity of the raid race linger. Recently, there was controversy surrounding the rapid farming of the exotic mission Encore, which allowed players to swiftly level up their power, potentially providing an unfair advantage. The specifics of what benefits have been disabled are still ambiguous, but the new system is designed to enhance damage reduction and improve damage output for new tiered gear.
Technical glitches have also emerged as a pressing concern. Players on the PS5 are experiencing significant sound issues, placing them at a disadvantage during the raid. Additionally, glitches within the raid itself have been reported, including instances of auto-killing players, malfunctioning banners, and problems loading into the Vault of Glass.
With the introduction of a completely revamped build system in Destiny 2, players are witnessing substantial changes in stat benefits, with stats now capping at 200. This shift has resulted in numerous potential oversights, prompting the emergence of new builds that appear to be overpowered. One such build worth mentioning comes from the frequent World’s First winner, Saltagreppo, who has developed an almost unkillable grapple-based Prismatic Hunter build. Despite the numerous changes and the chaos of the raid, there are still unregulated strategies that players can exploit.
As the race unfolds, players can expect to see innovative tactics, including new methods for chaining super abilities. The unpredictability of these developments adds an element of excitement, but it also raises questions about the overall fairness of the competition. Ultimately, while the race promises to be exhilarating, it may also lead to controversial outcomes.
