Anthony Mackie is taking center stage in a new film that brings patriotism to the forefront. Titled "Captain America: Brave New World," this movie was both written and filmed well before the upcoming 2024 election. However, this hasn't stopped some from speculating that the film reflects the current political climate in the United States.
During a recent interview with Esquire, Mackie discussed Harrison Ford portraying the character of Red Hulk/Thaddeus Ross, who serves as the president in the new movie. Mackie addressed the rumors that Ford's character might have connections to President Donald Trump.
"I hope, as a country, we’re tired of all the political jousting," Mackie expressed. "Let’s just go to the movies and chill the fk out. We could’ve made this motherf*er yellow and it would’ve been a problem."
Ford has also commented on the speculation. "I would not taint any movie with the reality of the world we’re living in right now," Ford reportedly told AFP during the Los Angeles world premiere of "Brave New World."
In an interview with Israel Hayom, Ford clarified, "This isn’t a movie about a good or bad president, but in this film, the president is part of the story."
He continued, "This isn’t an instruction manual for the current president. It’s simply a story about a group of people in tight suits who can fly, as part of the wonderful imagination that the Marvel Cinematic Universe provides. It’s primarily an escape from reality."
This film marks Mackie's first solo outing as Captain America. His character, Sam Wilson, assumed the role after it was handed over from Chris Evans at the conclusion of 2019’s "Avengers: Endgame."
